Lori Hall's Story
One Stop Spot for Great Resources!

When I enrolled in the summer 2009 Thinkfinity course, I never imagined this program would be so helpful to my career. Being a virtual educator, it is difficult to find resources that I can use with students in my “classroom.”  Thinkfinity.org is a one stop shopping resource for all teachers! When I took this course, I wrote my integration plan on starting a newspaper with the amazing resources available from ReadWriteThink.org.  In late August, I sent communication to all students in the Colorado Virtual Academy (COVA) regarding the launch of a school newspaper. I had 25 students at my first newspaper class ranging from grades 3 – 12!

The “Creating a Classroom Newspaper” lesson plan is what started it all! I shared the lesson on the whiteboard of my virtual classroom and paired off students as they started on their first article for the paper. My students always use the Newspaper Writing Assessment sheet from this lesson plan to rate their work before sending it to me for publication. The Reporter’s Guide and Inverted Pyramid Format are two other sources from ReadWriteThink that I periodically use to help students with their writing.  Thanks to ReadWriteThink.org, I have found a passion in teaching students how to write for a newspaper. To see students enjoying writing has been remarkable!  Thank you, Thinkfinity.org and ReadWriteThink.org for being a one stop spot for great resources!

Story Highlights

I taught at a public school for two years as a 4th grade teacher and four years as a sixth grade Language Arts educator. After taking a few years off to be home with my children, I decided to return to teaching for the Colorado Virtual Academy (COVA) as a virtual 6-8 English Teacher. I have taught for COVA for the past three years. I love to spend time with my three children and my husband. I also enjoy scrapbooking, playing volleyball, playing on the Wii and eating chocolate!
