Barbara K. Strassman, Ed.D.

Name Barbara K. Strassman, Ed.D.
Location Ewing, New Jersey
Role Professor
Membership International Literacy Association (ILA)

"I encourage my students to use RWT as the lessons provide excellent models of how theory translates into practice. The link to the state standards is particularly helpful in showing students how well-constructed lessons naturally meet the standards."

When teaching upper elementary deaf and hard of hearing students Barbara realized that she needed to know much more about the teaching and learning of reading and writing.  After earning her doctorate, she began teaching at The College of New Jersey where she coordinates the teacher preparation program in education of the deaf and hard of hearing. Barbara teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in assessment and instruction of reading and writing.  She also works in public schools supervising pre-professional teachers in a language arts practicum. Her most recent grant, Authoring With Video (funded by the Department of Education Office of Special Educational Programs, #H327H030002), investigated utilizing captions as a writing platform.

Barbara has published in IRA affiliated journals as well as in special education venues.
